Hi um I don't know how to choose my character's clothes and style, do you have something for that?

  • Setting: Different settings have different dress codes or different expectations for dress style. If your characters are in school, they might have to wear a uniform or follow a dress code. Clothes can determine social class, religion, culture, and positions of power in certain settings.
  • Climate: This is a big one. The weather and climate will determine what your characters wear outside and sometimes inside. If they live in an area where the weather fluctuates greatly throughout the year, they’ll have more clothing choices and certain clothes that are made for those climates.
  • Time Period: Self explanatory.
  • Background: Your character’s background might determine what they wear. Children will probably wear what their parents buy them, but some teenagers do that too. If your characters don’t have a lot of money or if they have older siblings, they might wear hand-me-downs. If your character comes from a noble, well-known, or respected family, they might have to dress in a way that upholds that reputation. If they are religious, they might wear something relating to their religion.
  • Your Character: Your character is what really determines what they wear. Do they wear baggy clothing to hide their body? Do they hate wearing pants? Do they wear the same shorts every day because it’s the only pair they’re comfortable wearing? Do they have a lot of shoes? What is their fashion sense like? Do they wear accessories, make up, or hair products? Does their body type affect what types of clothing they wear?
